Derk took the Fusion course held by spherevfx
in London. Here is his feedback about the course, the content,
and how he benefited from the experience with authorized eyeon
SWAT trainer, Matt Leonard.

| Q: Tell me about
yourself and how you became interested in Fusion? |
|
 |
A couple of years back, when I was
still studying graphic design, a fellow student (Blazej Floch,
an active member in the Fusion community), persuaded me to
switch and join the Moving Image and Animation courses.
Working
on a couple of projects together, I noticed that some interesting stuff was happening on Blazej's screen. While I was spending a lot of time closing and opening little eyes to see what I was doing to different layers, Blazej was swapping around whole groups of stuff and even using these for mattes and such. How efficient was that?! Yes, that was my introduction to Fusion.

 |
| Q: Where did you take the course? |
|
 |
|
It was
in the eyeon newsletter, I read that spherevfx was doing a course
on Fusion 6 in London at the Framestore CFC
facilities.
|
 |
|
Q. How do feel you benefited from taking the Fusion course? |
|
 |
|
There was plenty of
news about Fusion 6 and I was really quite curious to experience what
it would be like. The course was designed to take a
good look at new features. Also, it
was possible for me to get my hands on an educational
license for a very intriguing price. Additionally, I enjoyed meeting the other
people in the course.

|
Q: What was your favourite part of the course? |
|
 |
Discovering all the little jewels hidden in the software. To mention one, using elbow joints to reduce the number of inputs while creating a macro.
|
|
Q: Anything else you would like to share about the
course and your experience with eyeon SWAT (SoftWare Artist Training) |
|
 |
SWAT – in general
:
I really find this initiative a good one!
There are so many great features that Fusion has to offer.
Sometimes it is difficult to get to know them and the way they
work. Of course, there is help available from the Fusion
community, but as a beginner it is sometimes more convenient
to look and see how things are done (sometimes it is difficult
to ask the right questions). I was very lucky since I
had my friend Blazej next to me whom I could ask.
Now there
are Fusion YouTube videos available - such an improvement!
I could imagine that SWAT will become eyeon's best marketing
tool. To me, word of mouth is the strongest form of
advertisement. SWAT will create a lot of talk! SWAT –
the course
: I always enjoy an interesting discussion
and that's another reason I was very fond of the course. Sitting together with
other artists that work in different ways and share their experiences
and techniques will be enlightening for almost any skill
level. Matt Leonard, as the trainer, managed to create an
atmosphere in which these debates thrived.
Thanks again to Derk for his feedback
and much welcomed comments. Be sure to see the eyeon Events page for a SWAT event near
you.
