"I broke my left hand and had to wear a cast
for 3 weeks. I was able to work the day after the
injury because there are so many gestural strengths in
Fusion, like dragging the output of a node to a viewer
with my stylus. Can I tell you how I adore the A/B
wipe in the viewer? There are great keyboard
shortcuts in Fusion too but when you've got a hand out
of commission you don't use them. Even with a cast I was
able to function perfectly on Fusion, while I had to
wait 2 months to get back to hockey.
It's these kinds
of features in Fusion that make me a fan of the
software."

Fusion 6.1
Released!
Fusion
6.1's extensive supercomputing approach utilizes
the powerful, low-cost GPU to create assets and
layers in real time. The extensive tool set that
imports scenes from 3D animation packages allows
for a much tighter integrated workflow between
departments and applications. This open
flexibility also increases industry support for
technologies such as RenderMan® and RED® Camera
MYSTERIUM X™. Relighting and sophisticated
finishing offer more control and transparent
collaboration between the compositing artists.
OpenCL supercomputing is a fresh and innovative
use of today's massively parallel GPU. By speeding
up computationally extensive operations such as
Defocus, Fusion 6.1 allows the artist to instantly
visualize sophisticated mathematical operations
that compile code on-the-fly for use by the new
generation graphics
cards.

Excerpts
From Beta Blog - Grain's
Anatomy
"Film
grain has complex characteristics, both in spatial
structure and in value/intensity. Many understand
the basic principle behind how film works (in
simple terms, light sensitive crystals - or grains
- causing variations in density depending on the
amount of exposure to light), and therefore why
grain exists and why it tends to have the shape it
does (lots of overlapping crystals/grains). What
isn't immediately obvious to many is how the
intensity of the grain is influenced by the nature
of film."

Cicada
Design Visualizes The Future With
Fusion
Cicada
Design produces architectural design
visualizations for large projects and urban
design. Frequently, they are at the front end
of the project and work in parallel with the
design team as the scheme develops.
For
their animation work, the design visualizations
serve to communicate a scheme's intent and other
qualities related to the type of presentation,
design review, fundraising, approvals, and
such. They use Fusion for image
compositing in the animation workflows. Read more
here.
