"2011 proved to be one of eyeon's most distinguished years for technology and production announcements. My hat goes off to anyone who works in this industry, as we're in it to make magic - digital that is. Many thanks and congratulations to the studios, artists, and partners who have contributed to keeping the heroes in the skies and the planet from actually blowing up, again... Best wishes to all and happy holidays!"

Parasol Island, 30 days of work in 30 seconds. 14 full-CG shots.

"Numerous smart compositing solutions, pipeline tools, and new techniques developed for eyeon Fusion.

V-Ray rendering and hardcore multipass compositing using only native tools and macros, no plugins.

All the volumetric effects were done in Fusion 6.3 in a fraction of the time that any other 3D software would have required!"

Cheers,
Gregory Chalenko

Digital Media WorldDigital Media World Takes eyeon Deeper

eyeon Fusion 6.3 has new deep image volume tools for controlling light and volumes. Fusion supports AJA Kona 3G playback in 4K, and has tools to help compositors working on distorted images and mismatched stereo images.

Adjusting 3D scenes within Fusion's real time deep volume system and integrating the volumes directly into images with the World Position Pass tool are new ways to control light samples, scattering, asymmetry, and density. The volumes can be generated inside Fusion or imported via EXR.

Renderosity Holiday Contesteyeon's  Sponsoring The Renderosity Holiday Dream Contest

Remember lying in bed as a child anticipating Santa's arrival? With your excitement reaching a fever pitch, it seemed nearly impossible to fall asleep. After hours of stirring in your bed, you finally drift away and dream of what awaits under your tree. You ponder the past year - "Have I been naughty or nice? Did Santa bring me what I asked?"

As we get older, the holiday may take on a different meaning for each of us but it's still easy for us all to reach deep into ourselves and once again dream like a child.

What does a Holiday Dream look like to you? Interpret it through art.

eyeon is sponsoring the contest, once again, with a license of Fusion! Visit the Renderosity website to read more about the contest details here.

Breaking Badeyeon 'Faces Off' with Breaking Bad: The End Of Gus

In 'Face Off', the final season four episode of AMC's Breaking Bad, the notorious Gus character meets his gruesome end via a homemade bomb detonated inside a nursing home. Gus' death is revealed in a single shot, showing first the explosion and then actor Giancarlo Esposito's disfigured face, before he collapses. Visual effects supervisor and producer William Powloski of Velocity FX takes us through the practical and digital work for the stunning shot.

The model was built in Lightwave, using Boujou for tracking. The 3D components of the shot were composited in Fusion.

"When you do something in 3D, you can never see it in real time," Weigert suggests. "You have to wait for the picture to render, then you have to wait for all the frames to render to then put it into comp and then to see the results. So we tried to move away from that and do as much as we could with projection techniques in Fusion, which was the software of choice for this project. And we together worked with eyeon to develop new tools, one of which was full 3D water inside Fusion, so we had almost real time feedback on our water of the River Thames; we did 3D backgrounds with projected images must faster. For instance, we'd only render a still frame in the 3D package and then re-projected that in Fusion. And we'd use that and add camera moves."

The Art of VFXThe Art of VFX: Game of Thrones

Ed Bruce, VFX Supervisor of Screen Scene VFX (SSVFX),

a Dublin-based post production company, talked to The Art of VFX regarding their work for HBO's Game of Thrones.

Producing just over half of the effects shots for the first season, approximately 350 of the 686 total VFX shots, their desktop asset management software of choice was eyeon's Generation.

LineStuff we love...Line

'Line' is a full CG student short film created by Laurianne Proud'hon and Ludovic Ramisandraina for their master thesis graduation in Arts et Technologies de l'Image, at university Paris 8.

The foot (at 00:46) is the only live action element of their short film. The goal was to suggest human presence through offscreen and sound design work.

Laurianne and Ludovic completed 99% of this film in CG using primarily Fusion and Maya.

See the finished project here. Congratulations!
