Feature Film Work on Twilight, Inkheart, and Changeling

Toronto: January 23, 2009 ... eyeon Fusion on Linux is proving itself in high-end feature film work on box office successes such as Twilight, Changeling, and Inkheart, as well as Terry Gilliam's upcoming film, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, starring the late Heath Ledger. Running Fusion on Linux provides a seamless workflow for facilities who have invested in the platform, for example for their render farms.

"The chief reasons for going with Linux are cost, flexibility and ease of remote administration," according to John Paul Docherty, Visual Effects Supervisor at Peerless Camera Company in London. "All of our render farm facilities are set up on Linux platforms, as are the majority of our workstations."

Peerless ran Fusion on Linux for work on Ian Softley's Inkheart, and The Secret of Moon Acre, directed by Gabor Csupo (Bridge to Terabithea). Currently the facility is using Fusion on several key sequences for The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, scheduled for release in March 2009. "We like Fusion's full 3D environment and the integrated 3D particle system," explained Docherty.  "Personally, I find the broad range of tools in Fusion very useful when covering shots that can vary in format, technique, look - just about anything!"

CIS Vancouver also elected to go with Linux. "Our new pipeline relies on the efficiency and robustness of the Linux operating system," explained Visual Effects Supervisor Geoffrey Hancock, CIS Vancouver. "We're excited to be able to continue using Fusion in this environment."

For CIS Vancouver, the choice to go with Fusion had everything to do with their choice in artists. "Some of the best compositors we've had the pleasure to work with have used Fusion for years and we recognize that, more than software or technology, it is the artists that make shots look great. Ensuring our Fusion artists have a smooth transition into the Linux pipeline was important for us."

CIS Vancouver most recently used Fusion for 145 shots on Twilight and 42 shots on Changeling. "Fusion's 3D capabilities and recent stereoscopic features are signs of a modern software that keeps pace with developments in the industry faster than any other," said Hancock.
