Fusion - The Visual Effects Standard

"Uncharted Territory partnered with eyeon to develop VFX technology for Roland Emmerich's film Anonymous. Working directly with the team at eyeon allowed us to test, create and implement new tools in a very short time frame that enabled us to make our workflow more efficient, get more iterations and therefore be more creative. I am excited that these unique tools are now being released in Fusion."

What's New in Fusion 6.3

Deep Volumes
Fusion 6.3 goes deeper with Volumetric lighting, allowing for 3D scenes to light the real time deep volume systems and integrate the volumes directly into the images with World Position Passes. These volumes can be generated inside Fusion, or imported via EXR like the above example.

Color Science
Advances in Color handling and new color tools in this release makes color matching, profiling and working with different cameras and DI systems more seamless.
  • THX® advances support for Fusion in their latest release of Cinespace™.

  • Fusion adds ACES (Academy Color Encoding Specification) linear color space to its color pipeline.

  • New Color correction reversing capabilities have been developed.

  • New versatile LUT creation, analyzing and designing tools.

  • Primatte 5, providing vastly improved Auto Compute and Background color selection, background lighting adjustment and hybrid rendering.

Lens Distortion, implements the 3D Equalizer lens distortion and undistortion, with importing of data and a number of lens models.

AJA Kona 3G playback support including 4k and 48fps playback.

Plus many more enhancements big and small.

    Uncharted Territory Collaboration

Working with Uncharted Territory on Roland Emmerich's new film "Anonymous" put eyeon Software back in touch with their production roots. This film allowed both eyeon and Uncharted Territory to develop technology for visual effects that break ground for quality and speed.

In tandem with the production team, a new Deep Compositing toolset was developed to enhance the post production process for the film. In their determination to provide today's most efficient pipeline, eyeon is proud to include these technologies in Fusion.

Lateral thinking brings a different approach to generating volumetric effects and atmospherics. By putting these into the compositing phase, the production process provides far greater finishing artistry. The new Volume Mask tool, for example, is distilled from the Anonymous production to provide a versatile control over World Position Passes (WPP), to create volume fog, localized masking of 3D images for use in relighting and other effects in 3D.

The new lighting mode in Volume Fog, supports single-scattering, transmission, reflection (inverse of absorption) and fog emission. Supports point, directional and spot lights, obtained from a 3D scene. Thus allowing for realistic shading of fog and simulations, all this is accelerated to interactive realtime speeds.

Isolation of 3D areas within the images using the WPP, these remain fixed in moving scenes, so no animated masks or tracking is needed. These areas remain true to the 3D environment, even if the camera is moving.

The Fusion renderer outputs this expanded channel set Fusion's extensive scene importing allows more control and workflow streamlining between 3D animation and compositing. Fusion renders those extra passes on the fly at lightning speed via GPUs so artists get what they need now.

Occluding using WPP gives the correct real world blending and fitting to the scene. This gives depth dependent results from the world point of view and not just the camera's point of view.

Relighting control takes a big step forward by coupling Fusion's model and scene importing and this versatile volume tool utilizing WPP, this taking finishing to a new level.
