Using any image to create a Gradient

(Last Updated: June29, 2004)

Requirements: Digital Fusion 4.0 or higher
Flow and Source:  Gradient_From_Image.zip (42 Kb)

In this tip we will explore a method in which to create a simple texture or gradient from a source Loader.

Start with a new flow:

  1. Create a Background tool and a Loader. Load an image with plenty of color into the Loader.

  1. Select the background tool to display its controls, and click on the 5th gradient button in the Color Tab. This places the background tool in its most advanced form of gradient. Adjust the direction of the gradient so it is diagonal, as pictured here.

  1. Right-click on the color-bar gradient control and select "From Image" from the context menu that appears. A set of controls for the new modifier will appear in the modifiers tab while the background tool is selected. Switch to the modifier tab and expand the controls.

  1. Select your Loader (gradient source) and click-drag it over the "Image to scan" field in the From Image modifier.

  1. View the background tool in the left display view and the loader in the right display view. If you move the gradient sample area on your loader you will notice that the color pattern of your background gradient element will follow its pattern.

  1. You may use the options in the modifiers controls to adjust how many samples are taken from the source image.
A final note, once you have a gradient you like, you can remove the modifier, and the gradient will be preserved. This makes it easier to make small tweaks and adjustments to the gradient.

Good Fusioning!!!
